Commentary - Slide 1

(Luke 7:44-50)  Then He (Jesus) turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? ...she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head... Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much." ....And He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." ...Then He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

Jesus looked at the repentant heart and belief (faith or trust). The woman didn’t pray a 20-point prayer, keep the laws and ordinances, complete one sacrament, nor get baptized. Yet Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven... your faith has saved you (saved from condemnation).”

Commentary - Slide 2

Baptism is an outward expression of our personal relationship to God through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If a dry condemned sinner goes into baptism he/she comes out a wet condemned sinner. The only change was from being dry to all wet. The heart (inner self) does not get cleansed through water baptism.

Confess means an admission of sin. One can confess and still not repent. Without repentance confession means nothing.

Commentary - Slide 3

Repent means to change ones mind or turn from something. When turning from something one must turn to something or somebody. Else, they never really repented (or turned). They just detoured. One cannot truly repent without confessing (from the heart). Many times true repentance is falsely substituted with confession and penance.

The Bible speaks of a man that thought everything was going his way. It is not mentioned whether this guy thought he was in favor with God or not. Either way, this much is clear. God saw it as pride. (Luke 12:19-20) ...I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry." But God said to him, "Fool! This night your soul will be required of you..."
